Scouting notes: Argentina, December 2026

A preview of my December scouting trip to Buenos Aires and Mar del Plata, and the little things I'll be looking for with host eyes.

A little preview before I go: this December, I'll be spending time in Argentina, in Buenos Aires and Mar del Plata, ahead of the 2027 season. This isn't a report from the road yet. It's a look at what I'll be paying attention to when I get there.

Argentina is a place I have personal ties to, and one I've been looking at for a hosted trip. This visit is partly about seeing it with host eyes. Loving a place and knowing how to share it with a group are connected, but they aren't quite the same thing.

I'll be looking at neighborhoods first. Which ones feel good to stay in, and which ones make you want to wander a little longer? I want to understand what an ordinary morning there feels like, not just what looks good in a photo.

Food is a big part of that too. I'm interested in where locals actually eat, not only the famous rooms. I won't have a list of recommendations to share until I've been, but I'll be paying attention to the places that feel like part of everyday life.

Then there's pacing. How much can we honestly fit into a day without it feeling rushed? Where does a slow morning belong, or a long lunch that you don't have to hurry through? A good trip needs room for those moments, so I'll be noticing where the day asks us to slow down.

I'll also be figuring out how getting around really works. A route can look simple on a map and feel very different on the ground. I want to understand the connections between places and the small practical details before I build them into a group day.

Mostly, I'm looking for the little things that decide whether a day feels special or just busy. The space to wander, a meal worth lingering over, a plan that leaves you feeling present rather than pulled along. That's what I want to bring back to Someplace.

I'll share what I find once I'm back. For now, these are the questions I'm taking with me.
